On the Road Again

Tom and I will be going to California, Nevada, and Arizona in the very near future. I have the desire to run away for awhile, but it's impossible to run away from the bad news coming out of our Congress in Washington D.C. almost moment by moment. America is undergoing a change and undergoing a change I hope that most Americans don't believe in.

There may be a wedding in our family in the near future. Our son Cody has taken out a marriage license and has yet to set the date or place for the ceremony.

Nick has decided to go to college before enlisting in the Army. We support his decision fully.

Tom and I are currently in San Antonio as he had business. We manage to make it to this city every 5 yrs. First visited on our 20th anniversary, then our 25th, and now as it is near our 30th anniversary, we are back again (although the anniversaries weren't the reason for any of the trips). Tom's major travel season is upon him. We went to Hawaii (he on business, me on vacation) for two weeks in early December. Next on my itinerary for travels with Tom will be Reno, hopefully San Diego, and San Francisco. I'll leave Phoenix out as it's too hot in the summer and I need to be kept fairly cool.

Tom's life has changed drastically. His mother died early last summer. We had his 105 yr. old grandmother living with us until March, 2008, when we had to place her in a nursing home for her safety, and she died November 23, 2008 having lived exactly 105 yrs., 8 mos., 1 day. She was a walking, talking history book and managed to remain mentally sharp until the last six months of her life. The secret of her longevity was not only great genes, but an enduring belief that she really was quite young and being 105 wasn't a bit unusual.

My own Grandma Moser used to say that amid death was the arrival of new life, and on November 13, 2008, our son Dennis and his wife Brandy welcomed two gorgeous twin girls into the family. With this marriage, Tom and I also became immediately gifted with Brandy's son from a previous marriage. He is an extremely handsome, friendly, curious, and intelligent "big boy of 6 yrs. old" named Riley. We are proud of our new grandson and his twin sisters. Unfortunately we can't always be the grandparents we want to be as we are still raising our own children and working full time.

Our youngest son will be joining the Army this coming summer after he graduates from high school. He wants to be an MP and later become a police officer. His father, his grandfather, and his great-grandfather on his dad's side of the family have all been in the Army. Naturally we worry about him, but he is happy with the decision he made as he said that the Army is the fast track onto a police department.
